The fall sports season is upon us, and Triton’s East Campus Athletic Complex multi-purpose field is in the midst of upgrades to ensure you don’t miss a minute of the action. In addition to the Trojan’s men and women’s soccer teams, the field is also the new home of the Fenwick Friars varsity football team. The athletes will compete under the newly added lights that now surround the field. Also, we’re in the midst of expanding the field’s bleachers to pack even more fans in.
The men’s soccer team opens their season Monday Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. against College of Du Page, and the women’s team action gets underway Thursday Aug. 25 as they welcome Truman College. Fenwick takes the field Friday Aug. 26 when they play host to reigning Class 4A state champion Phillips Academy at 7:30 p.m.
A new aquaponic system that will allow fish and plants to grow in one integrated ecosystem is the highlight of the Triton’s East Greenhouse Modernization project. Work on the project has been underway all spring and is expected to be completed by August 2016. When it’s done- the new greenhouse will be about 33 percent bigger than the one it is replacing. The aquaponic system will feature computerized climate control and watering capabilities. The new greenhouse, which is located just outside of the R-Building on the east side of campus, will serve as an additional learning tool for students enrolled in Triton’s Horticulture and Sustainable Agriculture Programs. Additionally, the greenhouse and adjoining botanical garden will combine to produce vegetables and herbs that will be used by students in our Hospitality Industry Administration Program.
It was great to see everyone who came out to help us celebrate the completion of two of our big campus renovation projects this spring.
On April 28, we officially opened our new East Campus Athletic Complex. Triton baseball legends Lance Johnson and Coach Bob Symonds helped us cut the ribbon on the new facility. They were truly impressed by the upgrades, especially the new baseball and softball fields.
On May 24, we blasted into a new era of aerospace education as we unveiled the new Cernan Earth and Space Center. All of our guests seemed to enjoy the spiffed up planetarium and new projector.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the renovations possible, and we look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors back on campus soon.

Addressing the demand of today’s manufacturing industry, Triton College has relocated its Engineering Technology Program to a new, larger space on campus that supports the growth of the program.
The new space is nearly double the size of its former location, occupying 5,800 square feet in Triton’s Industrial Careers Building. It includes a new computer lab, robotics lab, electricity and electronics lab, along with classrooms to support many of Triton’s existing engineering courses.
The new space, which is designed to provide hands-on learning in a collaborative atmosphere, also includes an additional 2,700 square feet that will allow the Triton College Engineering Technology Program future growth opportunities.

Here’s a snippet from the Chicago Tribune article about the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of Triton College’s new Health and Sciences Facility on Sept. 29:
A brand new medical facility is now open at Triton College, offering technology and resources that school officials believe will prepare students for medical careers better than ever.
The college’s new $16 million Health and Science Facility, which occupies the college’s H Building on the northwest side of Triton’s campus, offers traditional classrooms for medical-related courses, but also new spaces for hands-on and simulated instruction.
Triton College Board Chairman Mark Stephens said it took a while to get the funding needed to start the project. About 75 percent of the new facility was paid for by a grant.
“It’s a very exciting day that we have long anticipated,” he said.
He pointed to a large group of students at the ceremony wearing medical uniforms.
“That’s really the reason why we’re here today,” he said.
Triton College Board Vice Chairman Donna Peluso said the students are excited about the improvements made to the 70,000-square-foot building.
“It’s amazing,” she said. “We waited a long time for this. It’s state of the art. The kids are so excited and this is what it’s all about.”
